Why Japanese?

Why Japanese?

I want to learn Japanese not only as a communication skill, but also the tool to help me to approach Japanese culture. There are three things I think is important to learn a culture: readings, food, and people.

Firstly, I like reading Japanese novels, especially those were written in 90's such as Mishima Yukio's work. I want to read the original text instead of the translation, because no matter how precise the translation is, it more or less reflects the translator's interpretation and thoughts. I want to have a better understanding about what the author really want to show to readers.

Secondly, I like Japanese food. Japanese food is a bit different from my country's. Chinese food usually focus on the process of cooking, while Japanese food take more efforts to express the original taste of the food.  I want to have a good command of Japanese so that I can not only travel around to seek delicious Japanese food, but also learn how to cook from Japanese people.

Lastly, and the important thing, I want to make friend with Japanese. I had some friends from Japan who are really cool and working hard. I learn a lot about Japanese fashion, animations from them. They like Chinese culture, and they want to learn Chinese. I love Japanese as well, that's why I want to study Japanese as my third language.

  1. Tianhua-san こんにちは。TAの小林(こばやし)です。What you wrote about food is interesting. Chinese food focus on the process of cooking. Japanese is opposite. そうですね! 夕べ家で、中華料理を食べました。おいしかったです!
